A Triumph Over Challenges: A Journey to Parenthood

A 31-year-old woman and her husband, married for nine years, arrived at Sunflower Women’s Hospital seeking help for primary infertility. Their journey was fraught with challenges, as the husband had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) and had undergone chemotherapy a year earlier. The condition also carried a familial weight, as his elder brother had died due to the same illness.
The husband’s fertility tests revealed oligoasthenoteratozoospermia(OAT), a condition affecting sperm count, motility, and morphology. In contrast, the wife’s health appeared stable, with normal blood reports and a normal uterus, though her ovaries showed mild polycystic characteristics. Genetic counseling shed further light on the complexities; while the wife’s genetic tests were normal, the husband’s tests revealed a mutation in the TET2 gene, associated with NHL, identified through Sanger sequencing.
With guidance from geneticists, the couple decided to pursue IVF with PGT-M (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic Disorders) and PGT-A (Aneuploidy Screening) to ensure the healthiest possible embryo.
The treatment commenced with ovarian stimulation using recombinant FSH. The couple underwent ICSI, resulting in six high-quality Day 5 blastocysts. Genetic testing revealed that only one embryo was chromosomally normal, two were mosaic, and three were aneuploid. The normal embryo was carefully selected for transfer during a frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycle.
The couple’s patience and determination were rewarded with a positive pregnancy result on the very first attempt. After a smooth and well-monitored pregnancy, the couple welcomed a healthy baby boy at full term.
Their story is a testament to the power of advanced medical science, meticulous planning, and unwavering hope. Despite the shadows of illness and uncertainty, they triumphed over every challenge to achieve the joy of parenthood.
