PCOS and Infertility: What’s the Connection?

Many women come to the clinic and say, “My periods are not regular. I have been trying for months but nothing is happening.”
When we check, the reason is often PCOS. It stands for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. It sounds technical, but it is something we can treat.

What happens in PCOS

Inside the ovaries, small changes start. The body makes a little more of the male hormones. Because of that, the eggs do not grow properly. Sometimes they grow but do not release. Sometimes they do not grow at all.
As this continues, periods become unpredictable. Some months there is bleeding. Some months there isn’t.
There are other signs too. Sudden weight gain. Pimples that don’t go away. Hair growing on the chin or chest. These are all small messages from the body that the hormones are not working together.

How it affects fertility

The main link between PCOS and infertility is irregular ovulation. When there is no egg, there can be no pregnancy. Even if the egg releases once in a while, it may not be strong enough. The lining of the uterus may also not be ready.
This does not mean pregnancy is impossible. It only means the body needs help to find its rhythm again.

Understanding through tests

At Sunflower Hospital, we start by listening. We ask about your cycle and your symptoms. Then we do a few simple female infertility tests.
Blood tests tell us what the hormones are doing. An ultrasound shows how the ovaries look and whether there are small cysts.
These tests are quick. They tell us what’s really going on and what kind of care will help most.

Bringing hormones back in balance

The core issue in PCOS is hormonal imbalance and infertility. The body is not following its natural timing. Insulin and other hormones rise and fall when they shouldn’t.
We work to fix that balance. Sometimes, small lifestyle changes are enough. Eating better. Walking every day. Sleeping well. Managing stress.
If the body still doesn’t respond, we use medicines to help it ovulate. For some women, IUI or IVF may be needed. The plan is made step by step, depending on how your body reacts.

Finding hope again

PCOS can feel heavy. The missed periods, the waiting, the confusion. It takes patience. But we see progress every day. Once the hormones start working in rhythm, many women conceive naturally.
At Sunflower Hospital, we guide you through every step. PCOS is not the end of fertility. With care, time, and trust, the body can recover and pregnancy can happen.
