5 Failed IVF Cycles, Adenomyosis, and a Tubal Block – Yet She Didn’t Give Up!

A couple from Maharashtra, burdened by five failed IVF attempts and years of disappointment, arrived at Sunflower Infertility and IVF Centre seeking a last ray of hope. The 39-year-old woman had been struggling with primary infertility for five years, facing multiple challenges—including a decreased ovarian reserve, tubal blockage, and a history of pelvic Koch’s. She had previously undergone AKT treatment, further complicating her fertility journey. Meanwhile, her husband’s semen analysis was normal.
Upon reassessing her condition, we found that her uterus was bulky and adenomyotic, making implantation even more difficult. To optimize her chances, she was put on DHEAS for a month to improve ovarian function, while her husband was prescribed antioxidant therapy to enhance sperm quality.
Once her ovarian reserve showed improvement and her endometrial lining was assessed, we initiated IVF stimulation with recombinant FSH and LH. The first ICSI cycle resulted in two high-quality Day 5 embryos, which were cryopreserved. However, given her history of failed cycles, we counseled her on undergoing dual stimulation to create more embryos before proceeding with the transfer.
With renewed faith in the process, she underwent a second round of stimulation, leading to the formation of five additional Day 5 embryos—bringing the total to seven. Given her history of recurrent implantation failure, we recommended Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGTA) to ensure the best possible outcomes. Out of the seven embryos tested, four were found to be genetically normal.
To further optimize implantation success, a hysteroscopy was performed, followed by conservative treatment to manage her adenomyotic uterus. Once her endometrium was adequately prepared, we proceeded with a Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) cycle, transferring two healthy, PGTA-normal embryos.
This time, the outcome was different—her pregnancy test came back positive. Today, at 26 weeks, she is experiencing a healthy and thriving pregnancy. After years of heartbreak and repeated failures, she finally sees her dream of motherhood coming true, filling her heart with joy and gratitude.
