Infertility is defined as the inability of a couple to conceive after 2 years of regular unprotected intercourse. Some authorities may use 1 year as the cut-off point.
There are about 60 - 80 million infertile couples world wide. The male partner is solely responsible in 40% of infertility cases while the female partner is responsible for another 40%. Both as a couple, are responsible for the remaining 20 % of cases. Infertility imposes a lot of physical, social, financial & mental burden on couple. The incidence of infertility has increased in the last few decades due to urbanization, carrier options, late marriages & life style preferences.
